I have a 35mm Pentax camera and its having trouble?

zoom h2
SteelGuy asked:

It’s giving me an H1 and/or H2 flashing on the display when I try ro take a photo. I’ve manually rewound the roll of film and put in a new role and it’s still doing this. My manual doesn’t mention any such alarm or trouble code. It seems to do it more often when I try to use the zoom; the few time that I’ve been able to get it take a picture have been with no zoom. Any ideas???

Hard to tell without knowing what Pentax model you have.

Go to the Pentax web site, select “Contact Customer Service” to ask your question. There may even be a FAQ on the website under support.

A Pentax IQ Zoom camera with an H1 or H2 error code means the shutter and/or Autofocus are not working properly. There is a thin flexible circuit board that goes from the shutter to the camera that bends back and forth every time you zoom the lens. Eventually, the circuit board develops cracks and the shutter and Autofocus quit working. The reason it might work at some zoom settings is that as it bends it sometimes will make proper contact.

Unfortunately, most of those parts for the IQ Zoom cameras are no longer available from Pentax. You might find a camera repair shop around that still has on, but the cost to replace it is usually high compared to the value of the camera. Probably in the $85 – $110 range depending upon the exact model.
